Damaso. What comes to your mind when you hear that name? Me? I instantly think of the wicked priest who starred in Jose Rizal’s Noli me Tangere (and that novel is a HUGE part of my highschool life, haha). Pia y Damaso has been around for a long time now but I have not found myself wanting to try this restaurant out for it relives my grueling Rizal days. Heehee.

Fun fact: And for those of you wondering what’s with the name — well, they are the names of Maria Clara’s parents; Pia Alba and the wicked priest himself (who happens to be Maria Clara’s biological father), Padre Damaso. The name alone can send your curiousity flying off the roof. Well it certainly did to mine! Crazy, huh? So I can’t help but think what Restaurante Pia y Damaso has to offer.

The place was cozy and small. So if you want to eat inside, it’ll be better to have a reservation. I didn’t have the chance to try their main dishes because I was eyeing mainly on their devilish desserts.

On to the desserts, shall we? So here’s what I tried: Salvi’s Canonigo and Sisa’s Dementia. THE NAMES!! Haha.

The verdict: Salvi’s Canonigo — the most refreshing thing that happened to mangoes, NOM! I noticed that every table seemed to have this dessert. Well, it’s light and fluffy. They lost me with their mangoes. LOVE.

As for Sisa’s Dementia — Chocolate overload! It’s basically a truffle cake with white chocolate almond pastille (center), dark chocolate mousse & ganache. Piece of heaven for chocoholics like me! Gotta love it.

I don’t know what has gotten into me by ordering another dessert. Lol. I was curious about their Brazo de Mercedes so I decided to try it too. Aaaand it was a good choice. Brazo ni Doña Vicki is delish! It’s really filling with just the right amount of sweetness.

My short but SWEET Damaso experience was all good. CRAVINGS SATISFIED! Go to Pia y Damaso for yummeh desserts! It has a veranda that overlooks the Greenbelt Church. So nice and calming. I cannot get over with the NAMES (lol), it’ll be fun to revisit though. I’ll definitely come back here and try their main dishes. xx
